Hotspots Analysis and Prospect of the Development of the Metaverse Research in China: Visual Analysis Based on Citespace
[Purpose/Significance] This paper systematically analyzes the current situation of metaverse development in China, aiming to reveal the application of technology, risks, and challenges in the study of metaverse, and helping to grasp the direction of metaverse development. [Method/Process] By selecting the relevant literature in the field of metaverse development from CNKI during 2016-2023 as samples, CiteSpace software was used to make a visual analysis of the research process, research strength, research hotspot and specific trend of the literature on metaverse development research, to reveal the development trend and evolution trend of metaverse research. [Result/Conclusion] Metaverse development research results show an overall development trend of “slow increase - sharp increase - steady development”. Specifically, with 2021 as the key time node, metaverse research results show a blowout growth. The research focuses on the specific technologies and practical applications of the metaverse in the technical dimension, as well as the risk dimension of technological risk, cultural value risk, life alienation risk, economic risk, social risk, and so on. Major universities and colleges are the core forces of metaverse development research at this stage, but geospatially the distribution is more in the east than in the west, and inter-institutional co-operation is dominated by proximity. Finally, it is pointed out that the future development of the metaverse can introduce agile governance thinking to deal with various risks and strengthen the application of metaverse technology in the fields of government service, medical health, and cultural tourism. At the same time, it is necessary to strengthen cooperation and exchanges in the central and western regions, to enrich the research achievements of the metaverse.
