Abstract
[Purpose/significance] Analyzing collaboration relationships among members from an individual perspective will reveal more internal collaboration characteristics of research teams, and provide information for the selection, development and acceptance of research teams. [Method/process] Firstly, members were split in two dimensions: the number of outputs and the number of collaborators of a member. In the former dimension, members were split into high output members or none output members. In the latter dimension, members were split into isolated members and active members. Then, a sample was selected from 39 Innovative Research Groups subsidized by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Lastly, four issues were discussed: how many none output members were, how many isolated members were, whether academic leaders were one of the high output members, and whether academic leaders were one of the active members. [Result/conclusion] None output members and isolated members exit widely in research teams. Academic leaders are not always the high output members or the active members. The collaboration relationships among members are loose.
